“Excellent few days away at a perfect retreat. Quiet and relaxing, in a lovely cottage which was clean, comfortable and very well equipped. The welcome pack including home made bread was a very nice touch. We would recommend this property to all.”
“This is a great little place. As the name implies, it’s a hideaway – you wouldn’t know it’s there! It’s next door to the owners’ place, but is a separate dwelling – you’re not overlooked by the owners, or anyone else! The owners meet you on arrival to hand over the keys, and to show you around the place. There’s a welcome pack consisting of milk, butter, a roll, Weetabix, cornflakes, coffee, tea and hot chocolate. Downstairs is an open-plan kitchen/sitting room with a shower room; outside the back door is a decking area with seating to take in the gorgeous hill views south across the Tyne Valley. Upstairs is a large double bedroom with ensuite toilet and sink. The property is clean, comfortable and well-equipped. It’s perfect for relaxing and exploring Hadrian’s Wall and the wider area.
“JUST WANT THE DOCTOR ORDERED”
“Lovely little hideaway in great location. Received a great warm welcome from the host. Thank you for the nice touch of the home made bread, butter, milk, cereal, tea, coffee and jam which was on the kitchen table on arrival. The wood burning stove was great and made the cottage cosy when used on the wet and windy day we made. Cottage was very clean and tidy with all the things you needed. Will definitely be visiting again. Thank to the host for make my holiday a real chill out and relaxing stay. “
“A BEAUTIFUL COTTAGE”
A beautiful cottage with stunning views . Excellent host . The cottage was very clean and tidy . The host had made us excellent fresh loaf of bread with breakfast and tea and coffee left out for us . It was so quiet , you just heard the birds singing . A wonderful place to stay , I would recommend it to anyone
Excellent for a long or short stay, very good for exploring the wall.
The view from the converted garage is quite spectacular & so extensive that you can merely sit/stand & stare for long periods of time watching the weather change, buzzards soaring, other birds performing aerobatics & even just the sheep quietly grazing. Very peaceful.
“A LOVELY COSY RETREAT TO EXPLORE THE AREA FROM”
“Very friendly welcome from the owners. The cottage is perfect for a couple. Very well presented, and well stocked to make sure you have what you need to start with, right down to a fresh loaf of homemade bread, butter, a breakfast selection and tea, coffee and milk!”
Felt warmly welcomed by the owners, and found everything we needed in this compact but well appointed and beautifully clean cottage, in a situation very close to wonderful walks on Hadrian’s Wall and by the river Allan.
“COSY AND QUIET WITH GREAT VIEWS”
“Spent a long weekend here and it was lovely, it really felt like a home away from home. Anne and Maurice were great, gave us our space but was always on hand if needed.”
“PEACEFUL, COSY HIDEWAWAY”
“Gorgeous little cottage with everything we needed. We felt so at home here and the owners Maurice and Anne are lovely. The stunning views from the cottage change by the minute as the weather passes over making getting anything done quite difficult as you want to just keep looking out of the windows! Perfect central location for visiting Hadrian’s Wall sites. Will definitely stay again”
“WHAT A PLACE!!!”
We recently stayed here after rescheduling from earlier in the year due to adverse weather conditions… We are so glad we stuck with our plans. The hideaway is lovely, ideal for the two of us and was a lovely standard. Everything was thought about and provided, from cleaning products, to towels and even a welcome package of bread with accompaniments, milk, tea/coffee and cereals. The location is perfect, close proximity to good pubs (Twice Brewed Inn), landmarks suck as Sycamore Gap and Vindolanda… and the views from the hideaway were peaceful and idyllic. We couldn’t ask for any more from Anne and Maurice… they were awesome. FYI do not follow the sat nav or you’ll be at a random farm. It’s the house next to it on the main road that you need to go via.
“HOME FROM HOME”
“Fantastic long weekend at this marvellous cottage. Anne & Maurice have really thought of everything to make this a home from home. Thank you so much!!!”

“A LOVELY NORTHUMBERLAND COTTAGE”

“LOVELY HIDEAWAY HOLIDAY”
Had a wonderful stay, the cottage was relaxing and the wood burning fire was quite romantic in the evening. We were warmly welcomed by Maurice and Anne and who were happy to answer any questions. A lovely touch was the homemade bread which was very tasty. Would highly recommend to anyone seeking a base with which to explore Hadrian’s wall and the surrounding area.
“So glad we found Hill House Hideaway, a beautiful relaxing holiday seeing wonderful Northern England from a central spot. We’ll definitely be back next time in the North.”
